We are working with partners at JSI to train health workers in the use of infection-blocking ointment
— Arlene Samen, Founder and CEO of One Heart World-Wide

The most common cause of infant death in Nepal is infection. We are excited to announce that One Heart World-Wide has entered into a partnership with the JSI Resarch and Training Institute to combat neonatal infections by introducing Chlorhexidine umbilical cord ointment, a gel applied at birth that is drastically reducing neonatal mortality due to infections and sepsis.

Together One Heart and JSI have provided supplies and training to more than 240 Community Health Volunteers in the Dhading and Sindhupalchok districts, so that even babies born outside established birthing centers are protected against life-threatening infections. We have plans to train many more health workers over the coming months to ensure that newborns throughout Nepal will not contract umbilical cord infections.
