I would like to take this opportunity to share my experiences with you in person; introduce you to Arlene Samen, the wonderful founder and president of One Heart; and ask for your support for the work that we do.

Nancy has been involved with One Heart World-Wide (OHW) as a volunteer in Nepal for the past three years, spending one to two months each spring working with Staff Nurses/Skilled Birth Attendant (SBA) Master Trainers at Dhaulagiri Zonal Hospital in Baglung, a town of 30,000 people in the hill country 275 km west of Kathmandu.  The training program targets nurses working in remote areas and teaches them lifesaving skills for reducing maternal and newborn mortality.  SBA training is only part of the innovative OHW Network of Safety model -  focusing on the local cultural context of each community; educating community health workers and volunteers in their villages; working with the Nepali government to build birth centers in these remote communities; as well as sponsoring local nurses to become skilled birth attendants.  The OHW Network of Safety model has been shown to be effective, replicable, and sustainable.

Join Nancy and Arlene to discuss their work in the remote areas of Western Nepal. You can learn more about the status of maternal health care for women residing in these areas, as well as what you can do to get involved in reducing the rates of maternal and neonatal mortality for these populations.

We would like to say a heartfelt THANK YOU for all of those who came out for the event! We hope you all enjoyed yourselves as much as we did! It was a lovely evening and your support allowed us to raise funds to equip 1 new birthing center in Nepal, purchase 1 portable ultrasound for use in a rural clinic, train 2 Skilled Birth Attendants and 50 community outreach volunteers, provide several delivery kits for Skilled Birth Attendants and deliver even more birth kits to expectant mothers, through our Fund-A-Need alone.
